Questions
Do I need a graphics card?
No. It runs faster with WebGPU, but it also works on the processor.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Kokoro runs in your browser after a one-time voice preparation.
Is it free to try?
Yes. Press Start listening on the home page to hear the introduction, and Free makes up to three hours of audio, once per account.
Can I choose the voice for each book?
Yes. Choose any of your voices before you convert.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Kokoro runs in your browser, and your text and audio stay on your computer.
Kokoro TTS in your browser
This page runs Kokoro-82M (version 1.0) in your browser. It uses the graphics chip through WebGPU when the browser supports it, and the processor when it doesn't. The voices are prepared once on the first conversion, then they stay in the browser. With Pro, conversion works without internet after that.
Kokoro TTS voices
The 13 English Kokoro voices on this page, each with a sample in the voice menu:
- Free: Heart (US, female) and Fenrir (US, male)
- Pro, US: Aoede, Bella, Nicole, Kore and Sarah (female); Michael and Puck (male)
- Pro, UK: Emma and Isabella (female); George and Fable (male)
Kokoro TTS for whole books
The page turns whole files into audio, not only short text. It reads EPUB, PDF, DOCX, TXT and MD files, finds the chapters, and makes them in order. Listening starts within a minute or two. Finished chapters stay in the browser, and Continue goes on from where it stopped after you close the tab.
Kokoro TTS to MP3 and M4B
Each chapter is an MP3 file at 96 kbps, named with the book title, the chapter number and the chapter title. With Pro, download one M4B audiobook with chapters and a cover, or all chapters as MP3 files in one ZIP.
Before Kokoro reads
The text is cleaned first: page headers, footers and page numbers are left out, and broken lines are joined. "e.g." is read as "for example", "Dr." as "Doctor", and "Chapter IV" as "Chapter Four". With Pro, a pronunciation list sets how any word is said.
