Textbook PDF to audiobook

Bookmarks in the PDF become chapters, and each chapter gets its own MP3 file. Free makes up to three hours of audio, once per account. Pro has no length limit.

PDF to audio for study

Two-column pages are read left column first, and page headers and page numbers are left out.

PDF to audio notes

Lecture notes in Word (DOCX), TXT or Markdown work too. Heading 1 and Heading 2 start chapters.

Questions

Can I skip footnotes?

Yes, with Pro. You can also move them to the end of the chapter.

Can I skip the reference list?

Yes, with Pro. You can skip it from its "References", "Bibliography" or "Works cited" heading to the end of the chapter.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Your file is opened in your browser, and the audio is made on your computer.

How long does a whole book take?

You can start listening within a minute or two, while the website makes the rest. You can download each chapter as soon as it is made. A typical novel is about 10 hours of audio. How long the whole book takes depends on your computer.

How to turn a textbook into an audiobook

Open the PDF, pick a chapter to start from, choose a voice, and press Convert book. The chapters are made in order, and listening starts within a minute or two. Download each chapter as an MP3, or, with Pro, the whole book as one M4B audiobook with chapters and a cover.

How a textbook PDF becomes chapters

Bookmarks in the PDF become chapters, named after the bookmarks. A PDF without bookmarks is split where a page starts with a heading such as "Chapter 3", "Part Two" or "Act I", or after about 3,200 words.

Footnotes, references and captions with Pro

With Pro, you choose what happens to the small-print notes at the bottom of a page: skip them, read them where they appear, or read them at the end of the chapter. You can skip the reference list, from its "References", "Bibliography" or "Works cited" heading to the end of the chapter. Captions that start with "Figure", "Fig." or "Table" and a number can be skipped or read.

Listen on your phone
